Overview: Derek does come from a family that has quite a lot of mental illnesses. He is the oldest of four children, born on a chilly November morning in Seattle, Washington. Unfortunately, after Madison was born, their mother spiraled out of control with severe paranoia and delusions, she always thought that her kids were out to get her, they were just wee little kids who wouldn't hurt flies. If i said Derek had an easy, wonderful childhood, I would be lying. Being the older sibling in the family, Derek had to protect his siblings. It did mean he got hit often because of his delusional mother. He was a six years old when his mother gave him the scar that is still there today on his temple. After Willa and Silas were born, it got all the more worse. It really didn't help that Willa suffered from Childhood Schizophrenia and later in life was diagnosed with paranoia .
Derek, Silas and their busy father were the only ones who didn't have some kind of mental illness. Derek got good grades in school, which did please his parents. Derek was the hardcore soccer player in middle and high school. It was one way he could de-stress and not worry about blowing up at someone. Because at this time, Derek had grown to be a touch temperamental at times. As he got older, one of his best friends, Lola, dragged him to her yoga class because she didn't have a ride home and he had just turned sixteen years old. To his surprise, he fell in love with it, and he met his first boyfriend, the first guy he ever fell in love with. His name was Adrian. Adrian was a lot of firsts for Derek, but they ended it on good terms because Adrian was moving across the country to New York City. They still keep in contact to this day and are great friends.
Derek graduated high school at top of his class and started at a local community college majoring in Psychology. He loved learning about Psychology. Especially learning about the Psychological disorders since he was so familiar with them. Just a few days after Derek's twentieth birthday, he was heading over to visit with his family and was struck by a car as he crossed the road. The man who hit him was as drunk as a skunk and drove off afterwords. Derek lay on the ground, dying a painful death. He had severe head trauma and was in severe pain from broken ribs, a broken arm, and broken pelvis It was the head trauma that killed Derek McBride He was conscious and in horrible pain for close to an hour before succumbing to his injuries.
Derek woke up a in a place called New Haven in a lot of pain. Still to this day, he has occasional pain in his pelvic area. It took Derek several weeks to fully recover to the point where he wasn't in constant pain. He started up back at college, taking two classes and got 2 part time jobs. one as a Baristas at Starbucks and the other as a Yoga Instructor. He's been here for close to two years now.
