Overview: Joseph or Josie was the first son but second child of the Reith family, by the time he was born his sister was in high school and his parents were ready to raise another child. Shay had mixed emotions about having a baby brother, her parents automatically came to her as the babysitter and she wasn't being paid for her services so she tended to neglect her little brother unless she was watching him. The way Shay treated Josie deeply affected him growing up, he tended to pine for his sisters affection even though she wasn't really having any of it. I wish I could say Josie had a happy childhood but that wasn't really the case, the older he got the more her neglect affected him. By the time he was in preschool his parents had gone to more parent teacher conferences than any parent should have to go to. They began taking Josie to see a counselor but the boy was rather quiet.
When Josie was six years old his sister Shay died in a car accident, she was driving drunk with a group of her friends and got a phone call from her abusive boyfriend and when she went to answer it she swerved and crashed into a pole and it killed her on impact. This had a severe impact on young Josie who was old enough to understand that his sister was never coming back but not to understand why. Once his sister died his parents began to neglect him, his father put himself into work and his mother became a reclusive drunk. So Josie decided that he had to become self reliant. He taught himself the basics of making TV dinners, he began walking himself to school and managed to get good enough grades to be put on the honor roll.
His mother finally broke out of her depression when he was 10 years old and by then Josie was already pretty independent but Anna tried to take over the mom role again which he only halfheartedly accepted. By the time he was 14 his mother was trying to smother him so he emancipated himself and moved into the homeless shelter while he saved up to start renting an apartment. By the time he was 16 he was completely independent and was making enough money to support himself. He graduated a year early and began working for his Uncle's construction company. He worked there for several years and became the foreman by the time he was twenty three.
That year he met a girl who he could see spending the rest of his life with, she was an artist and was all about free thinking and openness...yep you guessed it, a hipster. They turned his apartment into a lovely little love nest and while he worked she did her art. For his 24th birthday she announced a lovely little secret, she was pregnant. He couldn't be happier and they began looking for a new place. Five months after his birthday he was working overtime on the fourth of July with some of his fellow future fathers, there was an unsteady cement brick and a few hours later Josie woke up in some place he'd never been before. When his reaper appeared and explained that he had been standing in the wrong place at the wrong time and had suffered severe brain trauma, Josie accepted that he would never be able to hold his son and knew that he would have to move on with his life or afterlife or whatever.
He being an independent and strong-willed person quickly began adjusting and enrolled in the college for a degree in criminal justice. He met Keira at the local bar when he had stopped off for a beer which was an insanely rare occurrence for him and soon they began dating. When he isn't at school or in the gym or working his bouncing job at PLUR, he is with Keira in her stables helping out where ever he can. Right now he can't imagine anything else being different but things are always changing and he is willing to give any change a shot.
