[/style] TAGGED: open WORDS: 0580 "Yeah, I'll grab it when I'm done here, Dray," Sally said into her phone as she pressed it to her ear with her shoulder, paying for the sandwich she bought there in the food court at the mall. It was supposed to be her day off work, but there she was, coming in to deal with paperwork that needed to be done. She was still on the clock, though she was not in the store, because she was going to work on the information there in the food court since her assistant manager was doing interviews for new hires in the office that day. It was just easier to not be interrupted every ten minutes by a knock on the door. "You're buying me dinner, though. Mmhmm. See ya, then. Thanks, Carla." She added a thanks to the woman that handed her her order with a smile as she put her phone into her purse. Her coat was up in the office in the store, and Sally wished that she had brought it with her. With the fact her own store felt like a million degrees because the heat was broken and no one had fixed it yet, the rest of the mall felt like an ice block. However, she was soon enough sitting down on one of the tables, her purse on the ground next to her feet underneath the table. Her hair was curled that day and she kept tucking it behind her ear as she kept pouring over the paperwork. She needed to get it done and sent in so that the work orders would be in place to fix the signs, the heat, and the bathroom that kept breaking. Not to mention she had the paperwork to send to corporate about the products sent in that had mold on them and could not be put out on the floor. It was a hassle. Plus, for some reason, the store kept getting maternity clothing, which had no place in New Haven. Her shipment team, being the ever observant group they are, did not notice the maternity label and kept putting out the clothes. Now, she knew it was not all of them, but she had no one to replace the ones that were making the mistakes every Tuesday and Thursday morning, when the shipment trucks came in. Sally was not exactly sure how long she had sat there before she realized that she really needed something warm to drink. Some hot chocolate or coffee sounded amazing, and she started to gather her things to go up to Gloria Jean's coffee place. It was a second home to her. Dray had been quite happy when he realized there was one in the mall. Neither one of them were all that fond of Starbucks. Sally was so lost in her thoughts that she did not realize someone was walking between the row of tables, where she was standing and she backed up just enough to bump into them as they tried to pass, making her gasp softly. "Oh, my god, I'm sorry!" She said as she flicked her hair out of her eyes once again. She felt bad pretty immediately, even though it had been a complete accident. "I was not paying attention. I'm sorry. Are you okay?" She felt so bad for running into the person, like she always did. "I swear I'm not always that out of it. I'm... really sorry." Sally said with a shy smile. In the New Haven mall for goodness sakes on a Tuesday morning? He'd just gotten off the night shift at the hospital, and figured he should do this whole shopping thing now. If he went home, he'd never convince himself to forgo his bed long enough to go shopping before he had to go back to work. He sighed softly, not entirely sure what Dracen had meant by 'casual attire', he thought he was pretty casual as he was. Okay... lose the tie, maybe, but otherwise... he sighed, looking down at himself. Things were so much simpler back when he had been alive. Really. The girl's all wore dresses all the time, and the men wore suits, there wasn't really a sense of 'casual' and 'formal' back then. Formal meant you wore a tail coat and 'casual' was just your day-to-day suit.
He shook his head slightly as he walked through the mall. Salizar didn't know much about mall's. Most of the clothes he wore came from namebrand stores... Where he went in and they tailored the clothes to him. It also mean, though, that most of his clothes came from the mortal world instead of from New Haven. But he didn't have time anymore to just go down there to do some shopping for 'casual' clothes. He didn't know what passed for casual other than a t-shirt and jeans, neither of which seemed appealing to him. He had a pair of jeans... back in... god... the sixties? Seventies? They hadn't been at all attractive nor comfortable. No thanks. He shook his head slightly at the thought, at least those fashions had fallen out of favor relatively quickly.
As he walked, he passed through the food court, and as he walked he noticed a certain someone rising up from a table and he smiled slightly, moving between the tables then towards the girl that he hadn't seen in nearly a year. Of course, as she backed into him, he laughed, reaching out to stabilize her so that she didn't fall over. "I know that you aren't usually this clumsy," he stated, chuckling as she continued to apologize without even really looking to see who he was. "Sally, Sally... I'm fine," he stated, arching a brow as he finally caught her attention and smiled at her. "Still the same ol' Sally though... glad for that. It's been a while, girl, how you been?" he asked, tilting his head slightly.
As her assigned Reaper when Sally had arrived, he'd gotten rather close to her. He offered a small smile to the young female. "Still working at Old Navy?" he asked conversationally. It was amazing that it had been over a year since he'd last seen her. A year in the mortal world made him a little homesick sometimes for New Haven and the people that he knew there. He loved New Haven, had since the moment he'd come. Of course, he knew some people didn't like it all that much, but that was hardly the point. "I know that I certainly missed your smile while I was gone... but I'm glad that nothing has managed to rob you of it."

[/style] TAGGED: open/zar WORDS: 0639 Sally could not keep from smiling when she saw who it was that she had run into. "Salizar!" she said as she brushed her hair back out of her eyes. It had been much too long since she saw his familiar face. Honestly, if it were not for him, she highly doubted her transition to New Haven would be as smooth as it was. He'd been the first person she had seen when she woke up at the hospital after her accident. "Yeah, it has been quite a while. Where have you been?" she asked as she crossed her arms over her chest. As much as she had never thought she would miss the man that had brought her to New Haven, she really had. Salizar was a good guy to have around, if not a bit uptight. She knew that was because of the time period he had grown up in, though. She was a bit surprised he had not changed with the time; but, then, she guessed some people stuck to their ways. It was refreshing in some ways, though. Salizar was one of the most polite people that she had ever met. It was a good change from the selfishness and shallow nature that most people seemed to have. "I've been... okay. Kinda had an unwanted visitor recently." Okay, so it had been about a year, but given the whole practically suspended in time thing, a year seemed pretty recent. "I mean, it's good to see my friend again; but, I just wish he was not here, y'know? He had a good life ahead of him. I'm still not sure what happened. He won't tell me." Sally shook her head a little, a faint frown tugging on her lips for only a moment before she smiled once again at his question on if she was still working at Old Navy. That place was basically a second home with as much time as she spent there. She did not have much time for a life, but she guessed that was okay considering she did not really have much need for a personal life, anyway. She got plenty of time to spend with Dracen, and that was all she really needed. She was not romantically linked to anyone in any way. "Yeah, I'm the store manager, now. The last one moved on to a new job. I don't remember where." Sally had been so proud of herself as she was given the store manager position. It was a lot of responsibility and took up so much of her time. It was actually probably a good thing she did not try to juggle a relationship as well. Of course, the fact that even Dracen, Mr. Workaholic himself, commented on how much she worked was a bit startling. Maybe she should schedule herself more days off. Sally was not sure what she would do with herself if she did. She could not monopolize Dracen's time, after all. He did have other friends and a job. She could go see him there more, though. Her favorite time to go to Icon was on nights that Dray participated in open mic nights. She loved to hear him sing, and sometimes he would even drag her up there with. It was always fun. "Oh, y'know, always gotta find something to smile about. Smiling's my favorite." She smiled softly with a laugh that made her scrunch her nose slightly before brushing her hair back out of her eyes. "So, what brings you here, Salizar? The mall doesn't exactly seem like your type of place." There was no sort of insult to her statement, simply a concerned truth. She had no doubts that Salizar probably felt very out of place there. Things were very different than what he was really used to and comfortable with.

It really had been a while since she had seen him, over a year, in fact. Sally was actually the last charge he'd had before he went back to the mortal world. When she stated that it had been quite a while he nodded. Smiling at her question he shrugged slightly. "Gaining extra knowledge. Medical advances are so quick that we have to go to the mortal world every now and then to learn the new technologies, so I've been pretty busy," he stated simply, tilting his head slightly. "You been up to anything interesting?" Not that after a while there was really anything very interesting in New Haven, the place where hardly anything ever really changed.
When she stated that she had been okay but had an unwanted visitor recently, he gave her a sympathetic smile. He knew how that was. When he'd gotten back and discovered that Dracen was here he'd been quite distraught. Yet glad all at the same time. He'd missed the other male. He nodded as she went on to explain. "Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm the same way... there are some things you wish you could change... people that you love that you'd never wish were here..." You never could wish death on someone you really loved. He could never understand how that Reaper all those years ago had told the woman he claimed to love that the only way they could be together was if she died before her time. How could someone be that selfish?
He was glad, though, that Sally still seemed to be fitting nicely into the New Haven society. It wasn't a surprise when she said that the previous store manager of Old Navy had gone to another job. It was rather common in New Haven, it kept things interesting for those who were here. After all, doing the same job of working in a store for fifty years could be a little daunting. It was why there were so many job options in New Haven, a way to give everyone a chance to find their niche. "I'm glad, you're a really good worker, its about time they promoted you," he stated with a smile. It had been a couple of years since Sally had come to New Haven, it was about time they rewarded her good work.
Salizar was glad though that Sally still had her optimistic look on things. Not many people did, especially in the mortal world, you didn't run into to many smiling faces. Things were getting so hard there... so many young people coming to New Haven from natural causes of starvation simply because their families couldn't feed them enough. Sickness... starvation... accidents... the death toll on the young was just so great these days. It was saddening. So to find someone who could still smile was a rare blessing. "Not many people are like you, Sally. Most people don't care to look for something to smile about," he stated, smiling at her. It was part of Sally's charm though... she made the world brighter just with her personality.
When she asked him what he was doing in the mall, he laughed a little nervously, raising his hand to scratch the back of his head. "Actually, you're right on that account. I don't typically come to the mall. But see, I've kind of got... a new boyfriend?..." he offered slightly, laughing again softly. "He says I need more casual clothes... I guess the whole shirt and tie thing makes me seem... I dunno... uptight? So I thought... I thought I'd come and see what the Mall had to offer on that account. I know nothing about shopping for casual clothes though. All my clothes are usually tailored for me in the mortal world so... I don't do a lot of shopping on my own." He shrugged slightly. Dracen was just lucky that Salizar loved him... but there was no way he was going to be donning jeans for that man on a regular basis.

[/style] TAGGED: open/zar WORDS: 0680 Sally was honestly not too sure how to answer the 'anything interesting' question. She honestly did not have much of a life, and she was sure the details of her work life would bore him. Sure, amusing things happened quite often, but most of them were only funny to her co-workers because they knew the person who had said or done the funny thing. It always made things more humorous if you knew who was being talked about. It made it difficult to have much of a personal life, really. No wonder she was still single. Sally smiled and laughed softly as she brushed her hair back out of her eyes. "Not really; just been busy with work, y'know," she replied with a slight shrug. It was a bit sad, but oh well. Eventually things would die down a bit and she might have more time for a personal life. The only problem was, she was not interested in anyone. That would be the biggest issue with the whole personal life thing. She was a bit naive and tended to grow attachments to people quickly. That was not really on a relationship type of level, though. She was no stranger to flings and one-night stands, though those were few and far between. She did not like them all that much. She would much rather be in a relationship before she slept with someone.
She nodded a little when he mentioned that he knew what she meant with wishing someone was not a resident of New Haven. Don't get her wrong, she loved having her best friend there, having someone to really be close to again, but it was Dracen. She had wanted so badly for him to get better, to start to love himself, to fall in love and start a family. He deserved all of it, not to be there with her and the others that had died too soon. No, he still needed to live, and if she could give him that opportunity, she would give it to him. "He's my best friend. I love him dearly, like a brother, and I really don't want him here. At the same time, though, I'm really glad he's here. I missed the little weirdo." She really had missed Dracen's oddities. They were a part of made him who he was. The brunette smiled brightly when Salizar congratulated her on her permotion. She was definitely glad for the change of subject. It was a much better one. "Thank you. I was really happy. S'a lot of work, though. I rarely get days off." Even on her days off she found herself there, such as that one.
"Not many people are like you, Sally. Most people don't care to look for something to smile about." Sally shrugged a little with another smile, knowing that part of the reason she smiled so much was because positive energies were contagious. She enjoyed making those around her feel better. "Well, some of us have to. I've always been the friend to make my friends smile." Sally nodded a little as she shifted her weight before listening politely to Salizar explain exactly why he was there. She giggled softly at the mention of the man before her having a boyfriend. "That's great, Salizar! I'm glad you found somebody to be with. I'm sure he's great. Definitely very lucky." Sally nodded a little with a bright smile, completely unaware of the fact that the man before her was the same one that her best friend was head-over-heels for and talked about non-stop. Maybe she should have put two and two together, but she honestly just did not have a single idea. "Well, I'm actually here on my day off. I could help you if you like? You should try some khakis instead of jeans. They're more casual than slacks but a bit more formal than jeans. It's good for someone who is not used to jeans." Sally nodded a little. She had always suggested khakis to people who complained about not liking jeans. It was generally a good compromise.

He could relate to that. Of course, at the moment, his own life seemed to be teeming with interest. This was the most he'd ever had going on at one time in his entire life, and that was definitely saying something! "I know how that goes, more than you may think. The hospital still has me jumping all over the place for no apparent reason. I swear, while I was in the mortal world, I think they sent me to three or four different hospitals. In different countries even! Two were in the United States, one in Canada, and one in Europe. They had me going all over the place!" Of course, he understood that, of course. One in Canada, one in Europe, and one in the US was supposed to be it. Except they'd moved him from his hospital in the US because of his connection to Dracen. But Sally didn't know that.
Again, there was a faint nod in understanding as she said that she did love her friend dearly but wished that he weren't there. It was hard to be there and see people you cared about. Especially for those people who were here by an accident or something beyond their control... and then their loved ones came along... having comitted suicide. Like Dracen. His poor Dracen. He'd worked so hard to make him happy, perhaps if the Immortals hadn't moved him then it could have been different. Dracen swears it wouldn't have been but... Salizar could not help but wonder. What he wouldn't give to just try again. Of course, if it weren't for New Haven... Salizar would never have met Dracen. He'd have died in 1939 and neither of them would have been any the wiser. He looked up at Sally as she stated that she was happy that she got her promotion and he smiled again.
Now was not the time to be dwelling on the what-ifs. "I can imagine. I rarely get days off anymore either. I think this is the first day I've been off since I got back a few days ago." He shook his head slightly. He loved his job, really he did, and luckily there wasn't that much of a call for doctors in New Haven, but it was still a necessity that even if he weren't at the hospital, he was on call. Speaking of, he reached down, pulling his phone from his pocket and checking it. No messages. Good. Sometimes he didn't hear it go off or feel the vibrations, so he made a habit to check it every now and then just in case. He pushed it back into his pocket then, watching her. "So... are you off today? And spending it at the mall? Sounds like you need more interactions..." he stated teasingly, chuckling softly.
Smiling at her statement that she liked to make other smile, Salizar nodded. "Yes, you do have that kind of a personality don't you? It's such a drastic change from the charge that is in the process of being shifted to me. His previous Reaper was having trouble with him... and they thought he'd probably be better with a doctor. So they gave him to me. Poor boy... he's got a lot of problems, and I don't think I've seen him smile once since I got custody," he stated with a faint frown. Of course, Kira had only been given to him two days ago, and for the most part stayed locked in his room. But he had to check the boy daily for new wounds it seemed... and had to treat them. Even when he made sure the boy had no sharp objects... he still seemed to find a way to hurt himself.
He only wished there was something he could do for him. He was brought back to the thoughts of Dracen though as she stated that she was glad he found someone. Of course, having just been thinking of Kira made Salizar remember the scars that littered Dracen's body. Track marks... scars. His poor Dracen. Maybe he should see if Dracen had any advice on what he should do to help Kira. It wasn't anything he personally had experience with, but Dracen... perhaps... it was entirely possible that his lover could give him a better insight on him. It was an interesting thought and he wondered why he hadn't thought of it before. "Yeah... I mean... I wish that he weren't here, you know? But... I'm also glad that I can help him make the transition to New Haven easier." Maybe he could make Dracen happy here when he couldn't do it in the mortal world.
Of course, then she was offering to help him find clothes. "Oh wow, are you sure? I'd hate to make you work on your day off..." he stated a little sheepishly. "That hardly seems very fair. Maybe I should try and come back when you're on the clock so you at least get paid for having to suffer through my horrendous fashion choices..." He wasn't very good at shopping, really. When he got his clothes now, he tended to just take the advice of his tailors. He knew he could trust their opinion, because they knew they were getting a sale either way, but in New Haven? He didn't know many of the newer people because he'd been gone. Could he trust their opinions? He knew he could trust Sally at least. But he did so hate to make her work on her days off... especially since she had already said she got so few days off!
