December 12th, 8:00 Caitlyn sighed out of frustration. Maybe coming to the mall was bad idea, but she knew it was worth it: sales at a variety of stores were calling her name, even if she was here at eight o' clock this morning, and almost got ran over by a woman who had a yappy dog with her, who struck a good resemblace to Cosabella, her own toy poodle back at her place. No matter how violent the crowds were (she couldn't die twice--that would be dumb), she had to get the good stuff, since shopping wThey has in her blood, along with Mexcian and Italian. Zipping out of stores, she smiled as she gripped the bags in her hands tightly. Besides drawing, shopping helped her get her mind off that the fact she was dead. She came to New Haven after Lady, her horse, got spooked, and after realizing where she was, she had the idea of leaving, but she soon learned that leaving New Haven was forbidden.
Walking by several mall carts, where vedors were trying to grab her attention by shouting stuff about fancy cell-phone cases and perfumes (she made a mental note to go buy some Wonderstruck Enchanted by Taylor Swift, since she was out of it), she would glance at groups of people, often people who were her own age. Besides Sally, Caitlyn never met anyone else, and that made her miss Madison terribly. While she was dead, she wondered how Madison took it. She and Caitlyn were joint at the hip since day one, and while Caitlyn had other friends, she prefered to spend time with Madison. They would have fun together, even if they had nothing to do, they still made "nothing" fun. Caitlyn shook her head at the memory of Madison as she went into Victoria's Secret. She saw a lot of girls (plus some boys: boyfriends?) milling around the drawers of under-wear, bras, and other stuff she felt slightly embarrassed to shop for.
As she was trying on perfume, she thought she saw Madison standing behind her, and Caitlyn blinked. It couldn't be Madison because Madison was still alive, right? But, how would she know? People died all the way, so it would be possible that she might have ran into Madison at Victoria's Secret, but never noticed her until now.

[/style] TAGGED: cait WORDS: 0731 "Thanks for coming in," Madison said with a smile to her last customer. She then logged off her register and took her walkie over to the shift leader, who happened to be the store's manager. Maddi did not know too much about little Miss Sally. The young woman was quite a bit older than her, though. She was smiley and happy all the time, despite everything. It was a bit of a refresher. The other woman just had this charming presence that made it nearly impossible to hate her. Honestly, Madison was confused as to how someone like her was still single. It was just a mystery to her. "Bye, Sally." She smiled at her boss with a slight wave before heading to the back of the store and into the employees only area so that she could clock out and get her things. Once she did, she went to the front of the store to wait for one of the managers to come and check her coat and bag as security procedures for the staff dictated. Cleared to go, Madison said good-bye to her co-worker that checked her out and she stepped out into the main hall of the mall. She stopped as she stood there, taking a moment to think. Did she want to shop, or did she want to go home? It was early, but she had been on the overnight shift. Classes were out for that day for some reason. Maybe there was a teacher's workshop or something, Madison was not sure. All she knew was that it was eight in the morning on a Monday and she wanted to go home; but, at the same time, she needed some new clothes. She needed bras, specifically, as the ones she was using did not fit quite right. She guessed that was her own fault for getting the cheap bras from Walmart instead of paying a bit more for good ones. With a slight nod to herself, Maddi hiked her bag up onto her shoulder and draped her coat over her arm as she started to walk to the right, away from the store, instead of across the hall to the employee entrance of the mall. She would head home later. Her curled hair bounced a little as she walked and she tugged it back into an elastic as she went, wishing she did not look like someone who was frazzled after an overnight shift at work, even if that was what she was. Inventory nights were never fun. Sally had been rather frantic when she showed up at six to ready the store to open and she found that the inventory staff was still there. It was not their fault that the crew from corporate was made up of idiots. At least she got a five dollar gift card to Gloria Jean's out of the entire thing. She would have to stop by on her way out. She really wanted one of their Sleighride Mocha drinks. She stopped to talk a few of the regular workers at the kiosks along the way, flirting with one of the guys that she thought might possibly be flirting with her. Then again, he probably flirted with everyone, trying to get them to buy his perfume. (She did need more of the Boyfriend scent, her favorite). The teen stopped by Aerie first, getting a couple bras (plus a free one for some promotion or another), before continuing to Victoria's Secret. She had just stepped inside and glanced around a little when she saw someone that made her freeze. "Caitlyn?" she questioned, disbelieving of what her eyes were showing her. No, it was not really her best friend. Right? It couldn't be. Well, she guessed it could have been; but, a part of her hoped it was. Caitlyn deserved better than to be trapped in a place like New Haven. She had really missed her friend so much, but it was just weird to see the other girl when she had gotten herself used to the fact that she would never see the other teen again. "What're you...? How...? I don't... I mean... hi?" She felt completely scatterbrained, and not exactly herself, as she tried to wrap her mind around the idea of actually being able to see the other girl again. It was so weird; but, definitely not a bad thing.

Before she could even see if was Madison, a guy had stood in front of Madison. "Hey, there. Aren't you a pretty young thing." He leaned on the counter, and couple of perfume bottles tumbled down on the floor, leaving Caitlyn to blush as she helped him pick them up. "Real smooth, James, real smooth." the guy commented, and Caitlyn gave him a small smile. "It's okay."
"James!" Caitlyn and the guy looked up to see a girl storming over to them. "Really, James? Hitting on another defenseless girl? What if she has a boyfriend already?" Caitlyn's cheeks went to another shade of red, and James bit his lower lip. "Well, I--" Before he said anything, the girl looked at Caitlyn, and she asked, "Do you want to date my friend?" Caitlyn looked startled, and she choked, "Um, no.." The girl smiled, and she looked back at James. "Okay, then! Come on.." She watched James and the girl walk away, and then she looked at Madison. Caitlyn smiled, and waved at Madison. "Hey, Madison." So, she was right! It was Madison after all. She set the perfume bottle down, and made her way over to the girl, still smiling. This was amazing: she had her best friend in New Haven! Caitlyn giggled at Madison's loss of words. "It's so good to see you! Well, I mean, again. This is so cool!" She was just as surprised as Madison, but she felt excited at the same time because she hardly made any friends besides Sally. And she and Madison could get back into the swing of things, unless Madison had made other friends, which was fine with her, because Madison had always been sweet, and funny, making everyone laugh with her sense of humor. "So, what have you been doing lately?" Caitlyn asked, tempting conversation. Really? What else could she have been doing? She's dead! Caitlyn thought to herself. [/style] TAGGED: cait WORDS: 0529 That was the most awkward and painful thing that Madison had ever witnessed. Really, how did the guy think something like that would actually work on anyone? Of course, the girl just kind of stood there awkwardly, feeling very much invisible. It was something she was used to, but it was still not really a good thing. Madison tried to not think too much on it, though, and once Caitlyn's focus was on her again, Madison smiled awkwardly. The other girl's words made Madison's mood sink even more. It wasn't exactly the reunion she had pictured. There was no rush to hug one another, no gushing... Well, okay, there had been gushing on her part; but, then, she guessed she was not exactly someone Caitlyn really wanted to see there. Whatever. She brushed her hair out of her eyes and smiled with a nod. "It is good to see you again," Madison replied, shifting her coat over her arm absently so that it was covering both of them and there was no way that the other girl could see any of the scars that were there. It was just not something Madison was ready to talk with with Caitlyn. She did not want to see whatever expression crossed her friend's face, or to hear anything she had to say about it. It was just... no. She probably would have laughed at the thought of her having made friends if she had heard it. Unless her boss, Sally, or her Reaper counted, the only other person she had really met since arriving in New Haven was Kyrian. He was... well, he was who he was. Madison smiled faintly at the thought of the young man that owned the karaoke bar she frequented. It was one of her most favorite places ever.
"Uhm, well... I work at Old Navy here," Madison replied with a nod as she glanced around a little, walking closer to Caitlyn. "I've kinda mostly just been there or at school. Before that, I was... well... uhm..." Maddi shrugged a little as she trailed off. She was not sure it was really a conversation to be having in the middle of Victoria's Secret. Plus, she was not sure she wanted to explain everything to Caitlyn, anyway. That would involve telling things she had never told Caitlyn before. There were more scars there than could be explained away from the previous few months. There were some that were obviously a few years old. Honestly, Madison was not sure how she had gotten away with all of it for so long. She never furiously tried to hide it. Maybe that was how. She never drew attention to it by trying too hard to cover it up. Madison only paused a moment more before she hugged Caitlyn tightly. The girl was her best friend, after all, and she had greatly missed the other girl. "Everyone missed you so much. It was so weird without you there. What have you been doing? Isn't this place so weird?" Despite her being upset, Madison managed to smile brightly as she pulled away enough to look at her best friend again, releasing her from the hug.

Caitlyn hugged Madison back, and when she pulled away, she smiled. It shouldn't be awakard between them because they were best friends, but Madison had been alive while Caitlyn was dead. And they were just re-united, so where was all of the happiness? She shook her head slightly, and she looked at Madison again. "That's good about Old Navy. I work at Starbucks as a barista."
While her job was nice, she wished she was closer to her co-workers. Not on a friend level (though it would be nice), but talk between breaks, and maybe walk around Barnes And Noble after their shift was over or something. So, besides Cosabella, she really was alone, and she had beaten herself over the fact that she didn't have anyone to talk to because when she was alive, she was a social butterfly. But, maybe being dead changed your personality a little bit. Who knows? And to hear that everyone missed her, well, that gave her a ego boost. Sure, that sounded conceited, but once you died, didn't you want people to mourn for your death? Caitlyn always wondered what it would be like to watch people over-head (but, she couldn't do that now that she was in New Haven). Caitlyn smiled at Madison. "New Haven is a little weird, but you'll get used to it. I never knew there was a such a place." She was always taught that if you were good, you went to Heaven. If you were naughty, well..you went underground to rot. "It feels weird without you here: I missed you like crazy, and everyone else." Caitlyn said. Her smile turned into a slight frown. It wasn't like Madison and her shared everything like some best friends (even sisters) do, but she could sense that Madison was a little uncomfortable having a conversation at Victoria's Secret, of all places. "Hey, did you wanna go somewhere to catch up? I realize that this isn't the place to do that." And after the scene with James, she sort of wanted to get out of Victoria's Secret, and just come another time when it was less busy. [/style] TAGGED: cait WORDS: 0357 She smiled softly when Caityln said that she was working as a barista at Starbucks. That sounded like a good job for her, she guessed. She could easily see the other teen working there. Madison was fond of her job, she guessed. It was a good alternative since she could not really do anything with music there in New Haven. Well, actually... She did not know. Maybe she could. There'd be no touring or anything; but, she could make music if she wanted to. Maybe she should take advantage of the open mic night that Kyrian had mentioned the karaoke bar having. She knew that Icon had open mic nights, too. Both would be fun. "I don't really think that anyone who is not here would really know about New Haven," Maddi commented idly. It was true, though. It did not seem like a place that anyone would really know about. Even those who believed in heaven and hell did not ever really think of such a place; at least, that was what Madison thought. Personally, she had never put much stock in that whole heaven and hell thing. Anymore, though, she was not sure.
Madison smiled when Caitlyn said that she had missed her. It was a nice thought, that she had been missed. Not many people would really miss her. She honestly was not sure any of her friends and family did. She was not Leah, or Caityln, after all. She was the one that no one really saw. It was just the way things were. "Uhm, yeah, actually. That would... that would be nice." Madison nodded a little, shifting her bag on her arm. "Uhm, I don't really have a place to myself yet, but... do you? We could go there? Or to the park or something?" Honestly, Madison did not care where they went, as long as she got to spend some time with her best friend. With a soft smile, Maddi pulled her coat on after Caitlyn decided where they should go, and the two of them headed out. It was a rather cold day, but Maddi did not mind. She liked it.

As she and Madison headed out, Caitlyn thought more about New Haven (especially what Madison had just said): it was true that no one knew about New Haven until they came here, and if you came to New Haven, but just had a near-death experience, then you would sound crazy to the people around you. And like she told Madison, it was weird (New Haven, she meant), but once you adjusted to living in New Haven, then you'll do fine, and accept your fate as being dead, and never returning to the living. And she liked her life in New Haven: it wasn't like she didn't like living, but New Haven was sort of like a new start for her, so to speak. She could forget about what happened during the time she was alive (especially her parents's divorce, and her dad re-marrying). Caitlyn could be a new person if she wanted to be, but she rather to stay the same.
The girl nodded. "I do, in fact. We could go there, so we can get warm and stuff. I do have a dog, Cosabella, who is sort of like my room-mate. You'll love her, she's such a sweetie."
She hoped Cosy liked Madison, because with animals, if it was just them and their owner, then they tend to not like other people and/or animals, but Cosy was such a sweetie that she would instantly take a liking to Madison right away. And even if it was just her and Cosy, it did tend to get lonely, so sometimes she would listen to music just to have some back-ground noise so she didn't feel quite as lonely. She looked at Madison. She wondered why Madison didn't have a place to call her own yet. But, she figured that Madison was new to New Haven, but where would she go to sleep? "I'm sorry if I'm being nosy, but where are you currently living? I just hate to imagine you being on the streets." she replied. Caitlyn shivered, despite being in her leather jacket and hoodie. She thought getting cold was just part of being dead, because weren't dead people suppose to be cold? But, then again, the people in New Haven weren't corpses either. TAGGED;; MADISON OUFIT;; CAN BE FOUND HEREWORDS;; THERE ARE 387 WORDS LYRICS;; LOVE YOU LIKE A LOVE SONG - SELENA GOMEZ AND THE SCENE. [/style] TAGGED: cait WORDS: 0725 Honestly, Madison was still so unsure what she thought of New Haven in general. The best part of being there so far, for her, had been getting to know Kyrian. She really liked him. He was easy to talk to, and he was cute, and his smile... His smile was definitely her favorite. She could not keep from smiling faintly at the thought of him. Madison made a mental note to stop by Dream On sometime before Friday, when she would go with her co-workers again. She could bring Caitlyn with her; but, that would mean telling her about him in the first place. She was not sure she really wanted to do that. What if he ended up liking Caitlyn better than her? Everyone else did. She did not blame them. Caitlyn was beautiful, and caring, and she was not as awkward as Madison felt all the time. "I do, in fact. We could go there, so we can get warm and stuff. I do have a dog, Cosabella, who is sort of like my room-mate. You'll love her, she's such a sweetie." Madison smiled softly as Caitlyn talked. She had missed her best friend. Just being able to listen to the other girl talk was relaxing. It almost made her feel like she was at home. That startled her. New Haven? Home? She never thought she would really piece the two together. Then again, it was where she was living. She guessed eventually she would come to the place as home. It actually made her feel a bit better, too. It was almost a peaceful feeling. Was that what it was like to finally accept that she was there? She still kind of wished she wasn't. She had taken her life for a reason, after all. "What kind of dog is she?" Madison asked as she flicked her bangs back out of her eyes, absently toying with the ends of her scarf. "Warmth sounds good, though. So, just lead the way and I'll follow, my leader." Madison smiled with a soft giggle, finding it easy to fall back into teasing her best friend like nothing was different. Maybe nothing was different and she had just imagined the awkwardness to begin with.
Madi was not all that cold out there. Then again, she was wearing a long sleeve shirt, a sweater, and her thick, warm coat. That did do a lot to ward off the coldness. She was just glad there was not much ice on the sidewalk. "Oh, I'm staying with my Reaper for now. I mean, 've only been here a couple of weeks, and a part time job at a little more than minimum wage does not exactly do much to save up for an apartment," she replied with a shake of her head. She would love to have an apartment to herself. Maybe. Maybe, not. She was not such a fan of being alone. Maybe living alone would not be the best idea for her. She could look for a roommate, though. That could help with rent and the like. "Not sure moving out before graduation is in the plans. I mean, things could change, but..." She shrugged a little, biting her lower lip for a moment. Honestly, if it were not for her need to prove herself, she would not be in school and would be looking for another job. However, she felt the need to be better, to prove that she could do it and that she was smart. She needed to get to college for that. Madison gasped as a moment later, she was falling to the ground, landing hard on her backside after slipping on a patch of ice that she had not seen. Well, no, she had seen it. She just had not really made note of it because she had been distracted. It took a few moments of just sitting there on the cold ground before she started laughing, despite the fact that her right wrist really hurt. She probably managed to sprain it... again. "'M fine, 'm okay," she assured Caitlyn through her laughter before her friend could even ask. "Guess it's Madi's Day on Ice." She carefully got back up, brushing off the back of her jeans and coat. "Please, tell me we're almost there. I really don't feel like perfecting my landing."

Caitlyn smiled when Madison asked her about Cosabella. "She's a toy poodle, and has white curly fur. She's really cute."
When Caitlyn was alive, she adored big dogs (like Chip and Baylor) because she felt more safe, and protected. With little dogs, they were so yippy and it gave her a headache whenever she heard one. But, she saw Cosabella in the pet store, and it was love at first sight. Cosabella acted tough because of her size, and Caitlyn always found that so adorable. But, now that Madison was coming to visit, how would Cosabella take it? She did say that Cosabella would like her, but she could never figure out what went through that dog's mind. She laughed when she heard Madison tease her. New Haven wasn't the same without Madison, and now if only her boyfriend could here, too, it'd be perfect. Caitlyn sighed in relief she when she learned that Madison was living with her Reaper, and not on the streets, like what she had pictured. She didn't know that people got Reapers, and she didn't know if she'll get one or not. But, with Cosabella, she better not. "Well, that's good. Is he nice?" She bit her lower lip, and blushed (or was it because it was cold outside?). She didn't know why she thought Madison's Reaper was a guy, but she did. Quickly, she said, "You don't have to say anything. It's none of my business, and I'm just glad that you're not living on the streets." She knew Madison could get insecure on that kind of stuff, so she didn't want to make Madison uncomfortable during their reunion. Caitlyn was right behind her when Madison had slipped, and even though Madison told her not to worry, she did anyways, because she was caring like that. "Are you sure? When we get to my place, you can put some ice on it." Caitlyn said. She giggled, even though Madison was hurt. "Yeah, we are. It's not too much longer." When they came to her apartment building (which was a brown-brick building), the two girls rode up to the floor which Caitlyn's apartment was at, and as Caitlyn opened the door, she called, "Cosy! I'm home!" Suddenly, a flash of white came barreling towards the two girls, and Caitlyn got on her knees so Cosy could lick her face. Caitlyn laughed, and did introductions after Cosy licked her to death. "Madison, this is Cosabella. Cosy, this is Madison, my best friend. She's really nice, Cosy, so don't worry." But, even as Caitlyn said it, Cosy still checked Madison out, by sniffing her. [/style] TAGGED: cait WORDS: 0667 "A toy poodle?" Maddi questioned with a soft, giggled laugh, scrunching her nose a little. She really could not picture Caitlyn with a little yapping dog. It was odd, but as long as Caitlyn was happy with the thing, that was what mattered in the end. "Must be an amazing little dog for you to love her." Madison knew Caitlyn's aversion to smaller dogs, a thing they had in common. Maddi really only liked smaller dogs if they were puppies. Puppies were fine. It was the little yapping annoying things that annoyed her. Maybe it was because it reminded her of her mother. Somehow she managed to keep from frowning despite the bad thoughts swirling through her head. She shook her head a little when Caitlyn apologized for asking about her Reaper. She did not think it was prying or anything. It was just a friend being a friend. She thought. Maybe. Was it being nosy? Or did Caitlyn actually care? There was the chance she was just faking it because she had to; but, Madison tried not dwell on that possibility at all. It was rather ridiculous, after all. They were the best of friends. Caitlyn had known about her issues with self harm before, though she never knew the full extent of it, how bad things were and just what all her triggers were. There were some secrets that a girl just never told. "He's cool, I guess. Dunno much about him. We don't really talk. He makes sure I don't over sleep my alarm and that I've got what I need. Past that, s'more awkward silences than anything." It was really odd living with a stranger, worse than living with family members that were as good as strangers. None of them had truly understood her, nor had they really cared, not after her perfect sister was born. Madison flicked her hair out of her eyes, once again keeping her outward good mood, though inside she was fairly miserable, like usual.
Madison nodded when her friend asked her if she was sure she was okay. She was just a bit sore, but it was not that bad. Her wrist had definitely been worse, though wrapping it in an Ace bandage and getting some ice for it was probably the best idea. "Some ice for my wrist would probably be better, and one of those elastic bandages if you've got one," Madison commented, gingerly circling her injured wrist with her other hand, to keep it still. It did not hurt as bad if she did not try to move it at all. Madi did not have much to say the rest of the trip to Caitlyn's place, her thoughts drifting from this to that as they went. It was possibly pretty rude of her, but she could not help it. She had nothing left to say at the moment. It was a wonder she was not rambling out pointless jokes and stories, as she was known to do. Madi smiled softly when they entered the apartment, and Cosy came to love up on Caitlyn. She was a cute little dog, though Maddi still was not fond of smaller dogs. "She's cute," Madison said as she bent down a little, letting her hand out for the dog to smell before attempting to pet the thing. It made her miss her dog back home. She had had a boxer with floppy ears and a clipped tail. The female dog was one of her best companions. Rosa, her name, was one of the best Madison had to talk to. After all, as a dog, Rosa could not divulge her secrets to anyone, and that was more than a slight relief. Madison had so many secrets, enough that she often had to stop and think over her covering lies again, hoping that she was mixing her stories up. "This is a pretty nice apartment," Madison commented as she got up again, being careful with her sprained wrist. "D'you like living here?"

I'm going to move on, if that's okay. =) Caitlyn smiled. Yeah, Madison would know she didn't like small dogs, and that was something they both shared. "Yeah, I know Cosy wouldn't be the type of dog that I would have, but she's family to me. It was love at first sight."
Of course, Cosy could never fill the void of Chip and Baylor, but at least Cosy was some company so she wasn't excately lonley in a apartment. "But, I'm glad you think she's cute." Getting up, she looked at Madison. "Let me go get some ice to put on your wrist." Going into the kitchen, she got a paper towel, and held it under the ice dispender, and got some ice, bunching the paper towel so Madison had some control on how she wanted it on her wrist. She brought it back to Madison, and she smiled. "I don't have any of those bandages, so ice will have to do. Is that okay?" she asked. She felt bad that Madison had gotten hurt (like she always is when her best friend got hurt), and she felt even badder that she had only ice to help it when she could do so much more. When Madison complimented on her apartment, Caitlyn smiled. "Thanks. I like it too." Sure, it wouldn't be the first choice, but it suited her and Cosy just fine, plus it was one of the apartments that allowed animals. She thought about Madison's next question, and she nodded. "I do, actually. It's not lonely because I have Cosy, so that's good." If she didn't have Cosy, she would have gone crazy. And it was nice, considering she didn't have to hear her parents shout at each other, like it was when she was alive. "Does it get lonely when it's just you and your Reaper?" she asked. She didn't think she could live with a stranger, but given her personality, she probably could atleast be friendly to them, even if she didn't know them that well.
