E v e r y b o d y hurts some days It's okay to be a f r a i d -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everybody h u r t s , everybody screams E v e r y b o d y feels this way
Garen lay in bed staring up at the ceiling, it was Saturday Morning the first Saturday in December, he would be going out to get their Christmas Tree today later with Niklaus when Nik woke up. He looked at the clock, it was 7:15, he hadn't been able to sleep in for a few decades so he sighed, admitted defeat and got out of bed. He first went to his bathroom and washed his face, he looked in the mirror and thought that maybe he should shave, looking out the window squashed that idea. So he brushed his teeth and combed his hair.
He walked to his closet and grabbed the first shirt he could find, his favorite comic book shirt. He pulled it over his head and opened the door to the stairway, he walked down towards the kitchen and went immediately to the fridge and pulled out the juice, some eggs and the milk and then went to the pantry and pulled out bisquick and walked back to the kitchen. He was going to make pancakes then he said, Nah I'm in a biscuits and gravy kind of mood. He spun around to the freezer and pulled out some breakfast sausage and then walked back to the counter. He turned on his radio by the window and it was playing The Offspring, he nodded to the music and hummed while he started the coffee. Garen then started with the biscuits making the dough and rolling out the dough and cutting the dough into biscuit form.
He laid them out on a tray and put them in the oven before starting with the gravy. He put the sausage in the pan and began to brown it, he put the bisquick away and grabbed the flour. Once the meat was browned he started putting flour and milk in the pan stirring. Soon he had a lovely white gravy simmering on the back, he knew Nik wouldn't be joining him for breakfast but he hoped that Kye would so he set the table for two. He poured some orange juice in a glass and set it by Kye's spot at the table. He then pulled the biscuits out of the oven and put them on a plate and brought the pan of gravy over to the table. He walked out to the study and pulled out a book that he had been wanting to read and went back to the kitchen. He prepared his biscuits and poured gravy all over them, he poured himself a cup of coffee and opened his book and began his breakfast.
He looked up as Kye walked into the kitchen and smiled, Good morning Kye. Hope you're hungry. He liked Kye, sure Kye was the quiet type and regarding his history Garen could understand. He had chosen Kye as a charge because he could relate to commiting Suicide to be with his family, except Garen actually got to be with his brother again which made him feel for Kye. Not that he would show it to the guy, he took a bite of his breakfast and a sip of his coffee and said, I hope orange juice is okay. If not we have other things. Or coffee... He held up his mug and smiled. He wondered where his other charge was, and was curious where Nik's charge was. He made enough food for all of them to eat.

in the end born a saint, but with every sin i still wanna be holy. i will live again. who we are isn't how we live, we are more than our bodies. if i fall, i will rise back up and relive my glory OUTFIT: clicky | TAGGED: garen | WORDS: 685 When Kye awoke, he rose fluidly from his bed. A stop in front of the mirror had him looking over his bare torso as he only slept in pants as a general rule. He could see the scars still left on the pale skin from his father's beatings... and the scars on his own arms from where he himself had taken his own life. His old room had never had a lock on it. Hell. His old room hadn't even had a door. His father did not believe in privacy. Here? He had a door and a lock. Pulling on a random shirt, he unlocked his door and headed to the bathroom, locking that door after him and stripping so that he may take his shower. He hurried through his shower, wrapping a towel around his waist to hurry back to his room once he was done. Again, the lock flipped into place and he got dressed before sitting down at the desk which had a mirror suspended above it.
Opening the top drawer of his desk, he pulled out his make-up and leaned in towards the mirror to apply the make-up. It didn't take him long, what took him longer was his hair. Drying it with a hairdryer, he then proceeded to style it. Once that was done, his various pieces of jewelry were brought out. Last thing, his boots were pulled on and he rose to his feet. It was his intention to go to to lake that day and get some sketches done. So he grabbed his sketchbook and charcoals and left the room, closing the door behind him before he headed downstairs. As he reached the bottom of the stairs, the smell of food assaulted him. He turned his attention towards the kitchen and slowly moved towards the room. He peered into the room, spotting that it was only Garen that was there. Lily gave him the creeps. Well... it wasn't exactly Lily, or so he was told. But one of her... alter egos. It confused him a little, how was he supposed to know which was which?
He paused in the doorway as the older male smiled at him and told him good morning. It was certainly a morning, whether it was good or not was left to be determined. He slowly made his way into the room as he looked over towards the food that the other male had made. Wow, that was a lot. Would it be rude to refuse it? Likely. "Thank you, sir," Kye replied softly, his voice ever reamaining in the monotone he always spoke in. Most people got tired of the way that he spoke, always without emotion. Even more people got tired of the fact that he very rarely let any emotion show on his face. It made them think that he did not like them or that he thought himself better. They didn't understand that it was just how he was. He slowly lowered himself into a chair across the table from Garen, lightly setting his sketchbook down away from the food. He didn't exactly want to ruin his sketchbook. Especially this one, which he had asked Garen to go back to the mortal world to get for him when he'd finally gotten the nerve to ask for anything.
He looked up as the other male said the he hoped orange juice was okay. He gave a small nod. "It's fine," he stated before he reached up and began to make his own plate of food, back stiff as a board as he began to eat. Ever the proper motions coming from Kye as he looked up at the other male at the table. "How are you this morning, sir?" he asked before going back to his food. It really was very good. All of it. The biscuits especially tasted better than any he'd ever had before and wondered what the difference was. He wasn't sure, maybe he should ask? But he didn't want to be rude...

E v e r y b o d y hurts some days It's okay to be a f r a i d -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everybody h u r t s , everybody screams E v e r y b o d y feels this way
Garen looked at Kye as he sipped his coffee and smiled, I know you're still getting use to this life but you can call me Garen if you wish Kye. Out of all of his charges through out the seventy three years he'd been a Reaper, the suicides always stuck with him and those who had real cause to commit suicide stuck with him even more. He took a bite of his biscuits and gravy and wiped his mouth. He knew he couldn't pressure this young man to do anything, he wouldn't want to even if he could, Garen had the philosophy that everything will come to pass in due time and that patience is the best weapon, so he would wait for Kye to warm up to him and he was surprised that it was happening as much as it was.
He motioned to the sketch pad that he himself had gone back to the land of the living to retrieve and asked, So how is your art coming along here in New Haven? Surely you've drawn some pretty amazing things since you've been here. Garen had never seen Kye's work, he prided himself in allowing his charges their privacy and wouldn't dream of breaking that trust. Niklaus shared his philosophy but Nik took on less moody charges, unless you counted Lily who was a handful by herself, so he was easier to warm up too, sure Garen could have taken Lily but he decided against it. He liked to have male charges when he could only because he wasn't attracted to males so he felt more comfortable around them. Well if you want anything else I just went grocery shopping last night so we have plenty of stuff to drink.
Truth be told, Garen was nervous around Kye specifically due to Kye not being open to anyone, he was working hard to gain the boys trust and didn't want to step the wrong way or say something stupid. He maintained his calm exterior but inside he was shaking with nerves. He wasn't sure how to go about his next question but luckily Kye asked him a question. I'm doing good Kye. I woke up after a good nights rest and plan on going out to get the Christmas tree, I was thinking we could all decorate it but if you don't want to then I understand. He sipped his coffee again and gave the young man an understanding smile. He finished his first plate of biscuits and gravy and started preparing his second serving. How's breakfast? Been a while since I've made Biscuits and Gravy. He said with a chuckle. Between him and his brother they could have opened their own restaurant but Nik wanted to continue the legacy of owning a bar and Garen preferred cooking for close friends, charges and family.
The reason why he was asking this is because even though Kye had been there for a month and some change, he still wasn't entirely used to the young man's mannerisms. He just wanted to be sure that Kye was comfortable which reminded him of his question. How are you feeling Kye? Are you getting used to New Haven yet? Made any friends? He refilled his coffee and made it nice and sweet and took a sip looking at Kye with steady eyes before looking down and taking a bite of his food.

life is for the living the sharp snatch of veins; a deadly game. every day is always the same. my body is flesh for my knife to claim. just grit your teeth and stomach the pain. don't ask any questions, receive no lies. people are to busy to hear your cries. in this day and age its easy to hide. i said "i'm fine", did you know that i lied? OUTFIT: clicky | TAGGED: garen | WORDS: 812 Kye looked up for a brief moment as the other male spoke. He gave a faint nod as the other male stated the he could call him Garen instead of just 'sir'. Kye doubted that would happen any time soon. It was to informal. To... impolite. He'd been instructed from the time he had learned to talk that it was 'sir', 'ma'am', 'mother', or 'father' to your elders. Only your peers were addressed by first name only. It was difficult to call his Reaper by his last name given that he not only had a brother, but that brother lived in the same house. So calling him Mr. Almeric was not exactly that good of an option. "Yes, sir," he said softly, looking back down at his food. Perhaps he could call him Mr. Garen. That would still be polite, yet differential. Especially if he called Mr. Garen's brother Mr. Niklaus... or maybe he should just call him Mr. Almeric. He wrinkled his nose slightly at the conflict going on inside his head. Kye looked over at his sketchbook as the other male asked how his art was coming in New Haven. He shrugged slightly at the statement that he had drawn some pretty amazing things. "They're not all that great," he stated softly as he took a bite from his plate and ate some of the sausage as well before he took a drink of orange juice. "My interpretation of Truman Lake needs to be modified... I thought I would head down there... maybe see if I could get a different angle." He reached over to his sketchbook and slowly opened it up. He flipped through some of the pages with care before pausing at one he'd done a few days prior. He slid the book towards the other male so that he could see the sketch he'd done of Truman Lake. "I thought maybe of trying to come up with something where it looked more spring-like. But having never seen the lake during spring, it'll take a little more than this one did." He shrugged slightly, going back to his breakfast as he reached out and slowly tugged the sketchbook back towards himself. "I'm still getting used to working with charcoals. I'm used to just using a pencil and pen... like some of my earlier drawings..." He flipped back towards the front of the book. "Also not really used to doing landscapes. These are the kinds of pictures I drew... you know... before..." he stated, pushing the book back towards the other male, showing him a picture of two males who appeared to be fighting. Another shrug was given as he tugged the book back to himself. He looked back up at him as Garen began answering his questions and then mentioned a christmas tree. He tilted his head slightly, a very slight frown on his features. "A Christmas tree, sir?" he asked softly. That was something people still did? His father had always told him that it was just something done in movies to imitate a past tradition. How odd. He looked back down at his food as he took this in. He shouldn't be surprised at his father's lies, but to lie about something so... normal? He wondered if that meant that people still gave Christmas presents on Christmas. Should he go shopping? He didn't have anything gift-wise for Garen or Lily or Niklaus. He needed to go shopping... as bad as he hated shopping. He looked up as the other asked how breakfast was. "It's good. I've never had biscuits that tasted like this before," he stated simply, going back to eating as he contemplated about what else his father had kept from him. He himself hadn't gotten a Christmas gift in ages... he couldn't remember if he'd ever had a Christmas present. He'd see other people exchanging presents all through December at school... but he'd never gotten anything. He didn't make friends easily. He had aquaintances, not friends. He looked back up at the other as he asked how he was feeling. "Just fine, sir," he stated with another nod as he finished up the last of the sausage on his plate. Was he getting used to New Haven? Another nod. Made any friends? That gave him pause. He looked up at the other male at this point and shook his head. He didn't interact well. He kept to himself. People as a general rule gave him a wide berth. He didn't mind. If no one was close, no one would want to hurt him. DATE: December 7 NOTES:

E v e r y b o d y hurts some days It's okay to be a f r a i d -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everybody h u r t s , everybody screams E v e r y b o d y feels this way
Garen smiled when Kye said yes sir. He knew that it was still early in the game and based on Kye’s file the boy had been brought up in the Japanese culture which Garen recalled as being strict when it came to manners and said, Whenever you’re ready to. I won’t bite. He nodded and took a sip of his coffee. He knew that it was going to take time to earn this boys trust and Garen was more than patient which was where he and his brother differed, if Nik was Kye’s reaper Garen would still be trying to help this boy, Nik was more forward and definitely more intimidating which wasn’t what Kye needed. Kye needed someone who understood him and where he was coming from and Garen was the closest to Kye’s situation, at least that’s how he felt about the situation.
Garen smiled again, I’m sure you’re just being modest. He listened and nodded, The beauty of art is that it’s always changing and once you are satisfied with it then that’s your final choice. He himself was a poet and was always changing his prose and structure. So that’s what you’re doing today? Sounds like a nice peaceful day. He watched Kye flip through his book and leaned across to take the book from Kye to look at it. It was a very beautiful piece of work, It’s a great sketch. I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished. If you’ll let me that is. He smiled and pushed the sketchbook back towards Kye.
He smiled and listened to Kye talk about spring time and spoke up, Spring is a really beautiful thing to witness here in New Haven. You truly feel like the afterlife is truly paradise. He smiled and said, It really helps with my inspiration for my poetry. He listened and nodded before looking at the picture of the two men it looked like anime but it was still very impressive. Before you know it you’ll be the next Van Gogh minus the chopping the ear off bit. He smiled and pushed the book back towards Kye.
Garen noted Kye’s change in personality at the mention of a Christmas tree. Yeah a Christmas tree…Did.. He paused, Did you not ever have a Christmas celebration, at school or before your family… He paused again, Before it was just you and your dad? He felt bad, he knew what it was like to be reminded about the time before. It’s just something Nik and I decided we would do for our charges to help them adjust. You don’t need to get anything for anyone if you don’t want to. He could see hesitation in Kye’s facial expression. Its just something for us to feel like a family. God knows I miss having… His sentence trailed off and his mind wandered to his children and how he left them because his brother and he were so close, he missed having a family and his charges were like his children, the children he would never leave. He wasn’t sure what he would get Kye for Christmas but he knew it would be something meaningful to Kye which would bring Garen some satisfaction.
He smiled when Kye said it was good, The trick is to add melted butter to the dough. He took a bite of his biscuits and ate some gravy and took another sip of his coffee. He nodded when Kye said he was fine and nodded when Kye nodded but then he noticed that he paused at the mention of friends. I’m sure you’ll be able make some lasting friendships after some time. He looked down at his book and turned the page looking up at Kye with a smile. You’re always more than welcome to invite people over to crash or for dinner. The more the merrier. He smiled and finished the coffee in his cup.

OUTFIT: clicky | TAGGED: garen | WORDS: 679 Kye only gave a faint nod to the other male as he stated that whenever he was ready to address him by his first name that he wouldn't bite. Yeah, sure. How could Kye be sure that the other male wasn't just saying that? Or maybe it was just his current mood. His father could sometimes be very bipolar and just randomly change his mind about the smallest thing and get pissed off about it. Best to just stay with what he knew was safe for as long as he could. Of course, maybe this invitation was a subtle way of saying that he wasn't happy that Kye was still calling him 'sir'. Well that was certainly something new to think on as he took a drink from the glass of orange juice sitting in front of him. But then the other male was changing the subject so that was definitely a plus.
He shrugged though as the other stated he was just being modest. "I strive for perfection. When it is not attained, I am truthful about it. I don't try to make things sound better than they are. Nearly everything in my book here is... flawed. Unfortunately. Tearing out to many pages though messes with the binding," he stated softly, looking over towards the other as he confirmed his plans for today. He nodded slightly, looking down at his book absently. "I hope to start fresh on a new image. It's hard to visualize something that you haven't seen though," he said simply, pushing his fork around on his plate. "If you want to see it, then I guess you can..." If he didn't get rid of it. The worse offenders he got rid of after he realized their imperfection.
He looked up when Garen stated that Spring was a beautiful thing and made the afterlife seem like paradise. Perhaps that was true for those who felt they deserved a second chance. He himself didn't belong there. He knew that. He had made his choice, he had wanted an escape. Perhaps this was his escape. So far, no one had hurt him here. So far. But he'd only been there for a little over a month, having arrived on Halloween night. Didn't mean that someone wouldn't hurt him eventually. Just that he had been lucky. He'd kept to himself, didn't allow anyone the chance to hurt him. When he was home, he was in his room. When he was out, he was away from crowds. It seemed to be working well so far, so he'd just keep on with that one.
He shook his head slowly as the other male asked about having a Christmas celebration. "I do not remember much about... before the accident," he said softly, shrugging slightly. He would do whatever Garen wanted him to do. "I can help decorate if you want me to." He looked up at the other male and gave a slight nod. He looked up at the other male as he trailed off on what he was going to say. He wanted to ask him to continue. He wanted to know what the other missed having. Would it be rude to ask? He thought about it for a moment before he decided. "What do you miss, sir?" he asked softly, looking up at the other briefly before returning his eyes to the table. "I'm sorry if that's... to forward of me. You don't have to answer, of course."
The thought of friendships had him worried a little once more. He didn't make friends well. "I do better on my own," he whispered simply. No one to hurt him. No one to judge him. No one to see his weaknesses. Why should he actually try to get close to someone who could potentially hurt him or reveal his weaknesses to someone who would hurt him. No. Best not to try.

E v e r y b o d y hurts some days It's okay to be a f r a i d -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everybody h u r t s , everybody screams E v e r y b o d y feels this way Garen watched Kye’s body language and felt sad for the boy. He knew that Kye had a rough life and felt a little bad about pressuring the kid to call Garen by his name. Garen wondered what Kye was thinking, it was always so hard to read a new charge in the beginning, maybe in a few months he would be able to read Kye’s facial features and body language better. He sipped his coffee and smiled as he listened to Kye speak. He was fascinated by Kye’s way of thinking, it was something different compared to most of charges that he had in the past.
He nodded and said, Well every artist has their own way. He sipped his coffee and smiled at Kye, If I had known that when I started writing poetry I would have saved plenty of journal bindings. He chuckled a little and finished his breakfast. He listened and nodded, I understand. Well after a few months and a good rain, springtime will be here in no time. He smiled and picked his plate up and took it to the sink, he sat back down and smiled. Only show it to me if you really think it’s good enough. Not many people have the talent of critiquing their own work in a non biased manner.
He nodded and said, It will come back to you. Or not it really depends on whether you want to remember it or not. He looked at his empty cup of coffee and stood up and took it to the sink, he got another glass and poured some orange juice in it. He sat back down and smiled, I’d like that Kye, you don’t have to if you don’t want to, it’s a fun way to get to know everyone. He smiled and sipped his juice. When Kye asked what he missed and then looked away and put the glass down, Its quite alright, I miss my children more than anything, they were just children when I took my life and I kind of regret it but I know they were okay and they have grown up and had children of their own and grand children. He sighed and said, But I couldn’t live without my brother, Nik and I are best friends, twins and in a way we are connected through souls. If that makes sense to you…
He nodded and said, Well the offer still stands. Just in case. He smiled and ran his hands through his hair. It would be good to have some friends. Even if it is just one friend.
