One day he was hiking with a group of friends outside of Las Vegas when he slipped and fell, they rushed him to the hospital where Vani was staying. He was put in the intensive care unit because his rib cage had been crushed, thankfully he survived and while he was recovering he became a temporary resident at the hospital against his fathers wishes. While he was there he got to know Vani, who was 17 at the time, he didn't let her know anything about him except his name and was surprised to find that Vani didn't need to know his past to enjoy the present. She didn't reveal much about who she was either and about 2 months before Vani turned 18 he was discharged from the hospital leaving her a beautiful diamond necklace that he had his friend buy for her. They kept in contact through the internet and on her birthday he flew out to Vegas to spend time with her. Giving her a kiss on the cheek before he left.
