Did you ever had to go into surgery, and they gave you this sleeping gas so you couldn't see what they were doing? Well, that was what Caitlyn felt like, because she couldn't open her eyes. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't. They remained shut, and Caitlyn was just swimming in darkness. And the funny thing was, she couldn't remember how she ended up like this. Maybe this was how it was suppose to be, not remembering anything. That happened to her grandmother Dorothy after she had her hip surgery: she couldn't remember what was going on because they gave her that sleeping gas.
Caitlyn willed her eyes to open, but they remained shut. Wait...she couldn't hear anything either. Now, Caitlyn was starting to panic. Great, I'm going to die while having a panic attack. Awesome. she thought. Because she couldn't hear anything: not her mother's voice, her father's, or even Madison's. Just her own thoughts telling her that something was wrong. Terribly wrong. And the word die just stuck in her mind, like it was a key word that she should remember. But, she didn't know why that word stuck in her mind so much. Maybe she shouldn't have read so many scary stories as a kid.
Finally, after several tries, she opened her eyes, and everything was white. The walls, her bed spread, the sheets. Well, now she knew where she was: she at the hospital. But, this wasn't the hospital back home. No, she was somewhere else. Another thing: she realized she couldn't move. It was as if she was paraylzed or something. Oh, please don't let it be that.. Caitlyn thought, keeping her breathing even. Let alone being in a new place: she was hurt, and that just made her go into super scared mode. She moved her head to the side, and there were two guys looming over her, and Caitlyn's scared reaction to everything so far plummed just a little bit. "Hey, can you tell me where I am? Why does my back hurt so much?"

what it all comes down to i'm broke, but i'm happy. i'm poor, but i'm kind. i'm high, but i'm grounded. i'm drunk, but i'm sober. i'm sane, but i'm overwealmed. i'm lost, but i'm hopeful baby. OUTFIT: clicky | TAGGED: caitlyn | WORDS: 655 It was always a tragedy when there was a new admittance to New Haven. Of course, just the fact that this was an accidental death due to an accident with a horse. Rowa loved his horses, he really did. He only hoped that this girl here wouldn't despise or be afraid of horses now that she'd had an accident with one. It was why he was assigned to be her Reaper. He stood in the room with Salizar, one of the senior medical experts. He hadn't been around as long as Rowa, but... he'd been in New Haven for over a century. He was an old hand at this, just like Rowa himself was. He watched as the girl slowly began to come to, and he stepped forward. It was always best if their Reaper was the first one that they saw. It have them a connection.
He offered a smile that was meant to be comforting as he watched her as she spoke, asking where she was. "You're in New Haven, my dear," he said softly, watching her carefully. "And your back hurts mostly because you're still healing from your ordeal. Don't worry though, once the grogginess wears off, you should be able to move perfectly fine, but you'll still be a bit sore." He stepped up closer to her bedside. "My name is Rowa. You're Caitlyn, right?" he asked, gently reaching down to touch her shoulder. "I'm afraid there's something that you must know about New Haven." He looked back towards Salizar for a moment before looking back at the girl. "You see... you had an accident... on your horse, Lady... I believe is her name? And you broke your spine... that is why you are in New Haven. It is a place for young people such as yourself to have a chance to... to have a life beyond after tragedy strikes."
He watched her carefully, it was a speech he'd given to many charges over the years. One he always hated having to repeat. These poor children, lives cut so short by things that were of no fault of their own. "This is Dr. Snighrig... he'll tell you better what happened. I have to admit, I'm not all that knowledgable about medical dealings." He shifted aside slightly as Salizar stepped forward to tell her about her fall from the horse and the damages that it made... and then broke the news to her that she had not survived the accident. He closed his eyes, looking away, he always hated breaking that news to people who seemed to believe that they were obviously alive and in a hospital and that they were trying to play some kind of sick joke. "New Haven is... the afterlife, you see... a chance for you to have a life beyond your accident. To finish school, to have a job if you want, own a home... those sorts of things." Rowa offered to the girl.
He offered a slight smile. "And if you're agreeable, you'll be staying with me until you can support yourself. Dr. Snighrig and I are what is called "Reapers", and we are those who provide whatever the inhabitants of the town need. You'll come stay with me in my home and I will be... like a guardian of sorts. But I must tell you now... in case your accident has made you wary... I have horses. A lot of them. I rode here on one in fact... I don't own any vehicles, I think horses are much better and you get more from them then you would a car or a truck. But if you do not wish to be around horses because of your accident, I will understand and someone else will be assigned to you as your Reaper."
